Dashain Festival Feast at Kathmandu Hippie, Nevada City

Why we feast

Nepal’s biggest festival, served at our table

Dashain is Nepal’s biggest festival, a sacred time that brings families and communities together for feasts and elders’ blessings. It marks the autumn harvest and celebrates the triumph of good over evil.

We open our feast the way Kathmandu does: with a Sagun, the ceremonial platter of blessing, and then carry on through the dishes that fill a Kathmandu table during the festival.

The Sagun · five elements of blessing

Rooted in Tantric philosophy, the Sagun platter brings bodily harmony, strength and good fortune through five symbolic elements, the Panchamakara. Our first four courses serve all five.
